Every month on the Third Friday, Third Degree welcomes a new local artist to showcase their work in our East Gallery.
This month, we are excited to feature the vibrant artwork of Carla Dawson and her show All About Color.
About the Artist:
Carla’s years as a single mother raising a son found her making a career in banking. From 1974 to 1991, Carla worked her way up through the ranks to eventually become Vice President of Mortgage Operations for the largest residential mortgage lender in the metropolitan area.
In 1992, Carla decided to turn over a new leaf and begin to follow her long postponed desire to pursue art.
“I have been studying and working at finding my niche,” she says. “I have studied at Washington University; worked in a fine art glass gallery, taken a landscape workshop with Kim English in Aspen, CO; and studied privately with Robert Ketchens. I have also owned and operated a business designing and creating beaded/semi-precious stone jewelry which I exhibited locally and nationally in juried shows.”
Carla now focuses solely on oil painting (and her grandchildren) and am finding great satisfaction.
Artist’s statement about the show:
“I love color, line, nature, simplicity, travel, and humor. I hate rules.
“I try to take these emotions, use my imagination freely and create art makes me smile.
“Hopefully others will smile with me.”
Come see this artwork on display! All About Color will be on display in the East Gallery through July 17. We are open Monday-Saturday 10:00a-5:00p & Sunday 11:00a-4:00p.
