Every month at Third Friday, we at Third Degree welcome a local artist to showcase their work in our gallery. This month, we are proudly showcasing the work of one of our own: Laura Simone! At Third Degree she is recognized as an amazing flameworking artist and instructor, but many don’t know she’s also an incredible painter! Read her bio below.
“Art has been my world since the age of eight, and the world keeps expanding. Thanks to years of encouragement and support I graduated from Washburn University in 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art, my emphasis: Oil Painting and Stained Glass. After a seven year hiatus from painting; during which I worked on fused glass jewelry, stained glass and wearable art; I found myself thrown back into the realm of paint in the form of several large scale murals, paying the bills and rekindling my love of the painted medium.
“This series of portraits emerges from years of collecting images, sketching and avoiding actual paint. (Also, incredibly photogenic friends…) I find myself splitting time not between work and art, but between art forms…Lamp-work & Painting at the moment. It feels amazing to make a career out of what had – for too long – been a hobby. To share my love of artistic creation with others.
