Every month at Third Friday, we bring in a new local artist to showcase their artwork. This month, we were excited to bring in the artwork of Steven Walden, whose artwork has made major strides in popularity over the past couple years. His new series, “Heroes and Villains” showcases Steven’s nerdier tendencies, just in time for the release of the new “Batman vs. Superman” movie this week. This month’s display is broken down into two parts:
The first half of this show features artwork rendered using a technique that takes advantage of ChromaDepth 3D technology, wherein all of the works appear “normal” when viewed by the audience, but when seen through a pair of ChromaDepth 3D glasses, the images appear to literally “float” off of the canvas. It’s an exciting way to experience art for newcomers and regulars alike!
The second part of Steven’s show is the “Grief” series. Bringing his background in psychology into play, Steven displays the five stages of grief in striking images of recognizable superheroes. While not in 3D, these portrayals of each stage is not only informative but brings humanity to characters otherwise seen as heroic and invulnerable.
“Heroes and Villains” will be on display in our East Gallery until Wednesday, April 13. Come by and experience it for yourself!
