Every month, as a part of our Third Friday open house, Third Degree welcomes a new local artist to showcase their work in the East Gallery. This month, we’re featuring an exquisite show called Fire and Water by local artist, Brenda Gilliam.
About Fire and Water, Gilliam says:
“It’s summertime, with the suns fire in the sky and ocean waves dancing along the shoreline. This is my second summer in St Louis. I love this city, it’s home. However, I do miss previous summers spent along the coastal low country of South Carolina, home of my heart and soul.
“These paintings, originals in acrylic and graphite on canvas, were inspired by barefoot moments on Folly Island, SC. A complement to the element of fire on the west side of this building.”
“With an extensive background in graphic design and illustration, with an appreciation for the esthetics of mid-century to the 70s, and the tendency to interpret everyday moments and experiences in the subject matter of my paintings, I play with color, shape, pattern, texture, composition, balance, and movement in my work.”
Fire and Water will be on display until Wednesday, September 19th. Come visit Monday-Saturday 10:00a-5:00p & Sunday 11:00a-4:00p.
