Guest Glassblower Tony Cray to Demonstrate at Third Friday

August - Tony Cray

We at Third Degree are so excited for this month’s Third Friday open house, “Back to School,” on Friday, August 21!

In addition to delicious food by Holy Crepe! and a fun array of guided activities, we are most looking forward to a guest demonstration by the incredibly talented glassblower Tony Cray!

In 1986, Tony began blowing glass while studying ceramics at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, receiving his B.F.A. in studio art in 1990. In 1997, Tony founded and built Snake Ranch Studio, located about 40 miles west of St. Louis, near the town of New Melle, where he blows glass full time.

“My approach to producing work is self-seeking,” writes Tony on his website. “I would rather make it than write about it… and if I were you… I’d rather use it than read about it! There is no underlying message or moral to ponder. My work is about the work. It’s about the process. It’s about the work in progress. I strive to produce original, high quality, classic inspired modern objects that are finely crafted, obviously handmade, and uniquely mine.”

Tony will be demonstrating live for the crowd throughout the night at Third Friday! Come watch him transform 2000°F glowing molten glass into an amazing work of art!
