Fall in Love with Glass!

Glass is amazing!

Glass is a material that can be shaped, manipulated and formed using so many different methods into so many different shapes. It inspires creativity, and captivates the imagination. It’s what brings dozens of artists into our studios to create, share ideas and be inspired! You can be part of our community too!

Third Degree offers numerous classes and opportunities for everybody — from amateurs to professionals — to learn about glass and how to transform it into beautiful work! We call this the Path to Independence: the chance to work with the artists at Third Degree, who share their knowledge and passion for glass just like those who taught them. All it takes is a little time and a creative spirit to get you on your way to working independently in our studios!

Winter ClassGlassblowing

While the most recognizable and popular, glassblowing takes the most time to learn! Most of the artists in the Hotshop trained for a few years before creating their own work. Our 4-week classes lead you through basic techniques, use of tools and studio navigation.

You’ll start with Glass 1, and work your way through Glass 1.5 and Glass 2. By Glass 3, you’ll be renting independently under the supervision of a studio tech to help answer all the questions you may have as a new renter.

Creating glass beads on a torch is exciting, and great for anyone who likes to work smaller and create their own jewelry. Flameworking takes much less time to learn the basics, so you can start working on your own in no time!

While we have a very informative 4-week class in the works, future flameworkers can get their start with our Flameworking Intensive course! Once you’ve got the hang of it, you’ll find a variety of Master classes to help you refine your skills to create magnificent beads!

Kilnworking

Working with fused glass is a fun way to create intricate patterns and designs for a variety of plates and other works of art. Like Flameworking, understanding the basics is a fairly quick learning process. The rest is all creative experimentation!

Our Kilnworking Intensive class will get you your start with basic use of tools and what looks best in the kiln. Other project-focused classes pop up throughout the year to expand your knowledge! Keep an eye out for a 4-week Kilnworking class in the near future!

Getting comfortable working on your own is only the beginning! When you rent time in our studios, you will work alongside experienced artists, who love to share their tips and tricks to help you improve your technique. Many who started as students at Third Degree have gone on to show their work in galleries, jewelry shows, and more! You could be next!
