Corning Museum of Glass

As a glass artist one of the places we all want to visit is the Corning Museum of Glass. For those of us working in glass it is like Mecca!

Founded in 1951 by Corning Glass Works it cares for and displays the world’s best collection of art and historical glass. When you visit, you’ll see more than 3,500 years of history displayed in the Glass Collection Galleries, from the glass portrait of an ancient Egyptian pharaoh to contemporary sculpture made in glass.

Of course what caught my interest was the current exhibit of Life on a String 35 Centuries of the Glass Bead. This major exhibition explores glass beads and beaded objects made by various cultures, representing 3,500 years of human history. The exhibition runs though Jan 5 2014.

If you are ever traveling in the Corning NY area I encourage you to make a stop.
