Ok, I signed up, now what?
Put the class on your calendar and show up 15 minutes early!
What should I wear?
Closed-toed shoes are a requirement.
Wear natural fibers: denim jeans, cotton shirts, etc. Nothing stretchy or shiny.
Bring something to pin up/tie back any hair that is long enough.
What should I bring?
If this is your first class with us, please fill out our waiver. All necessary tools and materials are provided for you.
Wear comfortable clothing, bring a water bottle, and feel free to bring a bag lunch. Otherwise, you are welcome to visit Delmar Lee’s, the Chinese takeout place across our parking lot. There is also fast food at the corner of Kingshighway and Delmar, and plenty of local food establishments in the nearby Central West End and Delmar Loop. You may also have food delivered to Third Degree.
Ok, so I come, make stuff, and take it home?
Not so fast! Glass takes quite a while to cool down. Depending on the size and thickness, this can be anywhere from several hours to several days. After your work has come out of the annealer (special cooling oven), we’ll make sure it’s intact and and prepare it for pick up.
Why wouldn’t my artwork be intact?
Glass is a rewarding and challenging medium, with a very complex relationship with heat. Items do not always survive the annealing (gradual cooling) process. Cracked pieces happen to the most seasoned professional, and are definitely a possibility when an instructor is working with a beginner.
Ok, so what happens if my work is cracked?
If you took an Hot Glass Experience class, we will notify you of the broken item and one of our instructors will remake it for you (as it is hand-made, it will not be identical, but we will use your colors).
If you took the Glass Art Sampler class, we will replace your broken beads with some beads from our studio collection.
If you’re in one of our Path to Independence classes, then this is an expected part of the learning process. Your instructor may choose to give you a demonstration item made during your class (if there is one available) but this is not at all guaranteed.
Why can’t I just come in and try again?
As a company whose mission is to create amazing experience with glass for everyone, we work hard to make sure that our students enjoy their experience with us and leave loving what they’ve done as much as we love what we do. In any of our classes, the focus is on creating a fun, safe and educational environment. We do not guarantee the item that will be produced, and we can not guarantee the item the second time you make it either. What we do stand behind is the experience that you will have with our artist(s) while learning a new technique.
When can I take my glass home?
You’ll be able to pick up your projects after seven days. Please do not call to check if your items are ready for pick up. Simply visit us during our open hours, Monday-Saturday, 10:00a-5:00p, and request your item at the Front Desk.
Oh no! What if I can’t make the pickup date?
Don’t worry if you can’t make it then. We will hold onto your work for 1 month from the day of the class. We can’t make any promises after that. We have many classes, and don’t often have space to hold onto work longer than that.
What happens if I don’t make a masterpiece?
Glass is a rewarding, yet challenging medium. The professionals make it look easy, but they have been working with glass for years, even decades. We focus on creating a fun, safe, and educational environment where you can have an amazing experience with glass. Your instructors will assist you to the appropriate level in each class to meet this goal. If what you really want is a stunning piece of glass for your home or a gift, you may want to browse our gallery or even consider a commission.

CANCELLATION AND RESCHEDULING POLICY
If you are unable to attend your class or Experience, you may cancel and receive a full refund if we hear from you 72 hours (3 days) prior to your visit.
If you call within 72 hours, we would be happy to reschedule to another time. No refunds. Due to limited availability, Path to Independence classes may not be eligible for rescheduling. Credits from rescheduled classes are only valid for 6 months.
What if Third Degree needs to cancel?
All classes are subject to minimum and maximum enrollment. If Third Degree cancels a class, students will be notified and offered another class, account credit or a full refund.
