Every Third Friday, Third Degree welcomes a new local 2D artist to showcase their work in our East Gallery for a whole month. This month, we are pleased to showcase the work of artist Brenda Gilliam for The First on the Third for the Fifteenth — her first solo show, which premiered at Third Friday, for our 15th anniversary. Read Brenda’s artist statement below.
“With an extensive background in graphic design and illustration, with an appreciation for the esthetics of mid-century to 70’s, and the tendency to interpret everyday moments and experiences in the subject matter of my paintings … I play with color, shape, pattern, texture, composition, balance, movement … to share life’s sweetness and sorrow in my work.
“Each piece in this exhibit is an original painting, created this year … to honor the evolution of Third Degree Glass Factory … through years of effort and teamwork, imagination and creativity, support and community involvement, education and outreach.
“I have recently returned to my hometown of Saint Louis, after years of living in the coastal lowcountry of Charleston, SC. Third Degree was just firing up as I left Saint Louis, and I am so heartened by its growth over these past fifteen years. Within these walls I find inspiration. I hope your creative spirit is fired up as well.
“I also hope you enjoy my work.”
The First on the Third for the Fifteenth will be on display until Wednesday, November 15.
