STL Nerdy Girls celebrates YOU-As-Superhero with a costume contest and prizes. We chat with Carolyn Noe, STL Nerdy Girls founder, to find out more.
Um…A Superhero Contest? Who doesn’t have Superhero Vibe inside? This costume contest during September 20’s Third Friday is open to all superheroes. Many of our members are cosplayers so we’re encouraging them to show off their amazing work.
Who are STL Nerdy Girls? We’re a meetup group of over 700 women (and men) who are unironically enthusiastic about “nerdy” stuff – ranging from science to history, comic cons to lectures, and everything in between. STL Nerdy Girls was founded in October 2012 to foster continuous learning for women of all ages.
What do you do for fun? Some of our most popular to-do’s are Craft & Crab, Dinner Destinations, and Book Club. We’ve had over 170 Meetup events so far with 21 planned in the next few months.
Who is your fave Superhero? Black Widow in The Avengers was amazing. Another fave is Cat Daniels from My So-Called Secret Identity, a great series for young daughters.
And so a costume contest? Well two contests – one for children (13 & under) and one for adults. Check in by 8:30 to get a sticker with a number and see the panel of judges. Judges will pick their top five faves. Then the crowd votes. Winners announced at 9p. And yes, there are prizes!
What’s your next fun to-do? We’re going to a science lecture presented by the Academy of Science – St. Louis at the Saint Louis Zoo on polar bears on the Monday after September 20’s Third Friday. On Sept. 29, we’re heading to the Strange Folk Festival.
